Kgali Kedijang visited young activists from The Raising Voices of Young Women Project in Mafikeng, North West to reveal the rot of the Ngaka Modiri Municipality. It was found that despite R374 million being spent by the education department for learner transport, there were still 8503 learners walking very long distances to get to school. South Africa is endowed with vast natural resources therefore, extraction has become one of the major economic activities. Although this development can be said to be beneficial for the economy, practice has revealed that extractive industries can cause harm to the communities in which they operate. Various movements including #Shayisfuba have started to interrogate how profitable and politically endowed extractive ventures are intertwined with abuses by governments who undermine the livelihoods of families (especially those of womxn) to fuel state corruption.
